Meet the Masters

Shifu Shi Yan Chang (34th generation) has trained Shaolin Kung Fu for 11 years, learning at the original Shaolin Temple Songshan in Henan, China. He had many masters during his time in Songshan, all reporting to Abbott Shi Yongxin (33rd generation).

He specialises in meditation, zen movement - like Qi Gong and Tai Chi, Shaolin traditional fist form, and weapons forms.

Shifu finds great joy in leading the wellness classes, and seeing the Shaolin Temple Australia community improve their health and overall wellbeing. Shifu is honoured to uphold the Shaolin tradition, where Buddhist philosophy, martial arts, and traditional medicine form a unified path to holistic wellbeing.

Shifu invites all people to come and train, so they may live a healthy lifestyle, with a healthy heart, mind, body and spirit, leaving them prepared to face any challenges in life with strength and joy.

Shifu Shi Yan Ming (34th generation), our resident Kung Fu Master, has been training Shaolin Kung Fu since the age of 15. For the last 10 years he has been training at the Songshan Shaolin Temple under Abbott Shi Yongxin (33rd generation), and arrived at the Shaolin Temple Australia in mid 2025.

He specialises in all forms of Kung Fu, having demonstrated his impressive abilities to many world leaders. He is known for his ability to do hand stands supported by only 2 fingers on each hand!

Shifu enjoys teaching the kids and helping them develop their strength, skills and flexibility. His joy for teaching is clearly infectious, as the kids love learning from him too. His youthful and fun nature on display means his classes are always filled with smiles and laughter, to accompany the impressive displays of skill from both master and students.
